About

👋 Hello there! I’m an Alabama-based software engineer, self-taught photographer, and published author.

rickaby-family-2019

With a software engineering career spanning over two decades, I have been crafting digital experiences since 1997. My journey in the web world began when the internet was still in its infancy, allowing me to witness and contribute to its phenomenal evolution.

In 2006, I pivoted my focus to specialize in WordPress, a platform that powers a significant portion of the web. This strategic shift enabled me to deeply immerse myself in the WordPress ecosystem, mastering the art of creating robust, scalable, and user-friendly websites. My expertise in WordPress not only encompasses theme and plugin development but also extends to customizing and optimizing WordPress for a diverse range of needs.

Embracing the continuous evolution of web technologies, I expanded my skill set in 2019 by diving into React and Next.js. This expansion marked a significant milestone in my career, as I quickly became proficient in these cutting-edge technologies. My work with React and Next.js has allowed me to build modern, dynamic web applications that are both fast and responsive, offering users unparalleled online experiences.

Throughout my career, I have always prioritized staying ahead of the curve, continuously learning and adapting to the ever-changing landscape of web development.

In late 2019, I purchased a Lumix GX85 mirrorless camera and dedicated several months to taking courses, reading, practicing, and receiving feedback from my peers. I started out as a modest hobbyist but have since become a passionate enthusiast who appreciates various forms of photography, such as landscape, events, wildlife, street, and astrophotography.
